The club has reached agreement with St. Mirren to bring another of its promising younsters to Shire on a three month loan.
20 year-old midfielder Jamie McKernon has already been part of the Buddies’ SPL team and spent part of last season on loan at Ayr United, for whom he made 17 appearances in the First Division.
It is hoped that the paperwork will be completed in time to allow Jamie to make his Shire debut in this weekend’s Third Duivision match against Peterhead at Ochilview.
“We have had our eye on Jamie for a while now,” said head coach John Coughlin. “He is certainly a player who I think is capable of delivering the improvement we need in the middle of the park.
“For some time now I have said that we need a better passer of the ball in midfield and that is one thing that Jamie excels at. In many ways his skills are similar to those of Paul Weaver who Shire fans will remember well and I am hoping in his time here he can make a real impression.”
Shire already have Sean Kelly on loan from St. Mirren and he has done well for the club in a number of different defensive positions.
“There are lots of talented youngsters out there who are keen for the chance to play first team football,” said John. “Last year we used the loan system extensively and while I don’t think we will need to do the same again this time round it is still a useful way of sourcing players who will do you a job.”
